“Praise the Lord! Sing to
the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of the
faithful.”
Psalm 149:1
Trinity
Presbyterian Church is a place to glorify God through music.
Music is an integral part of our church and especially
in the Sunday 11:00 a.m. Worship Service. Music
reflects our common faith and beliefs and gives voice to our
praise of God. Our music program provides various opportunities for
adults, youth, and children to share their musical gifts as
an offering to the glory of God.
Under the
leadership of Dr. David Lee Johnson, the music
program is recognized as one of the finest in south Georgia.
It sets the tone for our worship, features live unamplified
musicians, and is considered to be a key aspect of Trinity's
identity.
Chancel
Choir: This is the major choir at Trinity, composed of
adults and high school students. Rehearsals are Wednesday
evenings from 7:00-8:15 p.m. The choir sings at the
11:00 a.m. worship service and performs various concerts
during the year. The Messiah is
scheduled for December 10 at 4:30 p.m. at Trinity. Prior singing
experience is not a requirement, but would be helpful.
Chancel
Ringers (Hand Bell choir): The Chancel Ringers is
a group for high school seniors and above. The ability
to read music is necessary. The Chancel Ringers
rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 5:50-6:35 p.m.
(Sept.-May). They perform at various times during the
year and especially during Advent and the Easter season.
Dr. Johnson is the director.
Youth
Choir: Youth in the fourth through the seventh
grades are encouraged to participate in this choir.
They rehearse Wednesday afternoons from 5:15-6:00 p.m.
(Sept.-May). Nancy Morris is the director.
Music
Interns from Valdosta State University: Trinity is
fortunate to have a music internship program for students
from VSU. They do not necessarily need to be music
majors to participate in this unique program.
Guest
Musicians: Guest musicians make regular appearances at
Trinity, playing for performances of Messiah,
John Rutter’s Magnificat and Requiem,
the Bach Magnificat and other
special worship services and special events centered around
the church calendar. Most of the time these are
professional musicians who are members of the music faculty
at Valdosta State University.
